Football and Networking with The Toronto ARGONAUTS

Hi it's your girl JA Nursing here,  I am excited to be apart of  this great event,  in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.  Breast Cancer awareness has always been a topic of discussion  for me particularly  due  to losing   my Sister to Breast Cancer. Breast cancer is a complex disease that will affect 1 in 9 Canadian women during their lifetime.According to the latest statistics, it is estimated that 25,000 women and 220 men in Canada will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and that 5,000 women and 60 men will die from the disease in 2015.   The message here is that we will continue to show support for all  Women and families who have been affected by Breast Cancer.

Canadian Small Business Women is proud to play an active part in Breast Cancer Awareness.  Join us, as we host our networking and football event on October 23rd, 2015 at 6pm at Rogers Centre.  Partial proceeds from this event will benefit the Young Adult Cancer Canada.  Our networking portion of the event will feature the GTA’s very own Health Advocate - Michelle Smith.

ABOUT CANADIAN SMALL BUSINESS WOMEN
Canadian Small Business Women is a resource website that provides resources to aspiring and current business women of Canada.  Through our website, we offer an online directory, start-up and marketing resources, business building resources, advertising and a great online community.  Through our many networking events, we enable our small business women to meet like-minded business owners and share ideas.  The blog portion of our company provides advice from women in different areas in business.  The blog component also features a Canadian Small Business Woman each month.

ABOUT YACC

Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) is a registered charity that works with and for young adults diagnosed with cancer between the ages of 15 and 39.  Their mission is to build a community of young adults diagnosed with cancer that provides information, support, skills and opportunity.  YACC provides a number of programs for young adult survivors and supporters to help connect them with others who ‘get it.’  They know that young adult survivors and supporters are facing huge challenges that are very specific to their age group – fertility, finances, relationships and independence are only a few.  These issues are a lot different for a young adult that they are for children and older adults; someone in their 60s doesn’t have the same concerns about fertility as someone in their 20s.  YACC offers Face-to-Face programs, an online community as well as a Survivor Conference that is hailed to be the biggest reunion of young adult cancer survivors and supporters in Canada.

ABOUT MICHELLE SMITH
Michelle Smith is a mother of two and a proactive nurse that has held various positions within the health-care system stemming from PSW Supervisor, Community Care, Rehabilitation, Long Term Care Floor Duty Nurse, Community Mental Health Registration Nurse and Acute Care Oncology Medical Surgical Nursing.  She launched JA Smith Consulting and Nursing Services in 2011 with a Non-Profit Division called JA Nursing We Care Inc.  This division participates in various health, social and mentoring initiatives within the community.  Both divisions of Michelle’s company ensures that people of all ages have healthcare awareness, resources and knowledge to navigate our Healthcare and Social System.  Their programs aim to empower individuals – regardless of age – to fully access their health and social benefits.  We provide information, education and assist groups in the community by intervening to resolve issues and produce results.  Health and social advocacy is the only way to increase the overall literacy and wellness of all individuals involved.

OUR EVENT
For the third year in a row, Canadian Small Business Women is proud to host a Football and Networking event.  Our event not only serves the purpose of networking, but we also want to teach our guests the power of networking while watching and learning about a sporting event.  The “feel good” component of the event is that you get to do it all while supporting a worthy cause.
Our day will start promptly at 5:30pm which will give us a chance to meet and greet our guests.  We will then present our two featured guests – Michelle Smith from JA Nursing as well as a Cancer Survivor who has used the services of YACC.  We will then have the honor of receiving an on-field tour and get the opportunity to meet and photograph with an Argos Cheerleader.  Once the game begins, we will watch the game, network and root for our home team.  All guests will receive a swag bag that will contain information from our sponsors, features and host companies.  There will also be opportunities to win prizes throughout the evening.
